Tom Barney's first work with the SNL Band was on the group's album Live From New York in the early 1980's. He joined the band on the show beginning in the 1983-1984 season, replacing Neil Jason. Barney returned to the show for the 1995-1996 season, replacing Paul Ossola.
Besides his work on the show, Barney is extremely busy with recording and live dates. He teamed with former SNL Band guitarist Georg Wadenius as part of the rhythm section for Steely Dan's "Alive In America" tour.
