James Genus, bass guitar
(2000-present)
Ninth season with SNL Band

Born in Hampton, Virginia in 1966, James Genus bought his first bass from Sears, then quickly switched to a Fender Precision when he got his chops up to a more respectable level. After college, he was hired by a former teacher, Ellis Marsalis, to play in his group. He moved to New York in 1987, working with The Brecker Brothers and Chick Corea, and got the SNL gig when Tom Barney left to tour with Steely Dan.
